Flagstaff, Ariz.- Evenementen zullen georganiseerd worden tegen de koloniale genocide en slavernij die door het hele land gevierd wordt als “Columbus Day”

Inheemse volkeren blijven zich verzetten tegen de eeuwen van koloniaal geweld in deze streek die bekend staat als de Southwest.

Van raciale profilering, politiegeweld, gedwongen verhuizingen, extreme extractie van grondstoffen, tot ontwijding van sacrale plaatsen zoals de San Francisco Peaks, zullen deze evenementen de aandacht richtten op herdenking, overleving en nalatenschap van weerstand.

 

De organisatoren doen hiermee ook een beroep op het stadsbestuur van Flagstaff om ernstig zaak te maken voor de erkenning van ‘Indigenous Peoples Day.

Oct. 10 - CONCERT and WORKSHOPS

What: Gold King Mine Spill Relief Benefit Concert and workshops.

Admission is $5-10 sliding scale (no one turned away for lack of funds). Proceeds will go directly to Tohni Relief Fund.

What: Flash Mob Round Dance. Singers, drummers, and dancers. Banners addressing Columbus' genocide, and social and environmental justice struggles.

 

When: Sunday, October 11 at 4:30pm.

 

Where: Heritage Square Downtown Flagstaff.

 

OCT. 12 - INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY FORUM

 

What: "Stories of Remembrance, Survivance, and Legacies of Resilience." Sharing knowledge through storytelling. Voices of youth, college students, community leaders, and elders. Forum is free and open to the community.

 

When: Monday, October 12 from 4:00pm until 6:30pm.

 

Where: NAU's Native American Cultural Center Gathering Room, bldg. 14
